Shaffer Chimere Smith (born October 18, 1982), known professionally as "Ne-Yo", is a Grammy Award-nominated American R&B and pop singer-songwriter. Ne-Yo's debut album, In My Own Words, was released in early 2006, through Def Jam Records, and debuted at number one on Billboard 200, selling over 301,000 copies in the first week. During the same week, Ne-Yo's second single "So Sick" (produced by Stargate) was the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His sophomore album, Because of You, was released May 1, 2007. The first single from the album was "Because of You". |
Interesting Facts:
- Ne-Yo says he has a son named Chimere who is about 2 years old, and while Ne-Yo admits that the child is not his biologically, he says he is still the child's father in fact.
- Ne-Yo says he has written songs for Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Corbin Bleu and Enrique Iglesias for their upcoming albums, and he recently confirmed that he has been contacted by producer Will.i.am for working on Michael Jackson's upcoming album.
